They don't call it building a business for nothing. One hundred years ago, the United States was primarily rural and agrarian. People lived on farms. They worked the fields or toiled in small workshops. Markets were local and the workforce was largely craftsmen. Indiana has been long accused of being behind the times because of agrarian identity. We like to think that it is a strength of ours. Hoosiers tend to be hardworking people. When Robert Simon founded Standard Die in 1945, he would go out and sell during the day and then return to make die sets at night. Right from the start Bob invested in people and equipment. Bob always spent a lot of his time working in the shop, and to this day our management team is active in the action on the floor. In 1971, Fred Wolfred came to work at Standard Die. He was taught how the investment in people, equipment and capabilities provide better solutions for clients. By listening to the needs of our customers we are creating an organization that evolves for the future.
